Healing, Layer by Layer
When I first met Theo he had some ongoing health concerns that kept him in and out of vet care.
One of the things I do to help assess an animal’s overall health and wellbeing is a self assessment. I ask them to give me a rating out of 10. 10 being the highest health feeling and 0 the lowest.
Theo the horse gave me a 4 out of 10.
He ended up needing a medical procedure soon after in order to reach resolution from the struggles he was navigating.
As part of his healing team, I stepped in to support his recovery and the ultimate resolution of the ongoing problem that needed medical intervention.
Using a combination of primarily animal communication, energy healing and cranial sacral work - Theo and I met telepathically to unwind whatever mental, emotional, physical, or energetic strain we could.
Doing our best to keep him in a productive healing state - we also kept his mom informed of his needs, pain levels, and feelings around his whole journey.
And one of my favorite things about working with Theo over time is getting to watch his healing unfold.
Because he didn't need the same thing from me every time.
Many times we worked directly in the tissues of soreness, pain, or imbalance.
Some areas took multiple passes for resolution until others lit up for support as he healed.
At another session, I went back through the areas we'd previously worked with and found that the releases were holding beautifully.
Some days his body was simply in need of energetic support and a loving space to rest in.
Other sessions brought us back into parts of his body that were holding the brunt of imbalance or tension as he worked through the recovery process.
I wasn't following a predetermined treatment plan or deciding ahead of time which modality we were going to use.
I was listening to Theo and meeting what was actually there that day.
And as his physical body became more comfortable and stable, something interesting started to happen.
Other layers began coming forward.
There were experiences from earlier in Theo's life that in the healing space we created together - he could finally unwind. Our work began touching themes around safety, freedom, and feeling loved, valued and chosen.
Eventually, it also began moving beyond Theo himself and into his relationship with his person.
Toward the end of our time together, he led me into one of the most beautiful experiences of the entire journey.
During a healing session, Theo led the energy to expand beyond himself. It moved through the barn, around the other horses, and eventually extended to his human family and the space they all shared.
It felt like everything we'd spent weeks tending within him was beginning to overflow from him and ripple outward.
And his person noticed a change too.
She reported her connection with Theo had completely transformed. She felt connected to him in a new, more bonded way.
I asked Theo how he felt in his body toward the end of our recovery intensive.
Remember, we'd started at a 4 out of 10.
This time?
9 out of 10.
Theo's experience illustrates something I've witnessed again and again in this work:
Healing deepens as it unfolds - layer by connected layer.
We don't necessarily know at the beginning what we're going to find further down the road.
Sometimes the physical body needs most of our attention first.
Sometimes greater comfort and stability create room for an emotional layer to come forward.
Sometimes the work moves into a relationship.
And sometimes something we're tending within one being begins touching an entire family.
This is also one of the reasons I value ongoing work so much.
There are absolutely times when one conversation or healing session gives an animal exactly what they need.
But there are other seasons when having more time allows us to see the process differently.
I get to see what's holding.
What's changing.
What the body is asking for now.
What doesn't need our attention anymore.
And what becomes available because of the work we've already done.
That's the heart behind Living Alignment, the pathway I created for animals moving through seasons where ongoing communication and healing support may serve them.
And I think Theo's experience holds an even bigger reminder:
We don't always need to know where healing is going before we begin.
We meet what's there.
We listen.
We respond.
And we stay curious about what can unfold thereafter.
Then every once in a while, we look back at where we started...
And realize just how much has changed.
